Are you a party of any movement that makes you feel like you’re a part of the community? I mean I guess being here. Do you feel like you’re a part of a community when you attend rallies? Yeah I think so. What was the impact of being with other people after the election? It was actually really negative. I travel for work, so I was in part of the country that’s really red. First I was just in a hotel by myself, and that was really depressing and I felt like I needed a drink. So I went to a bar just surrounded by people who were happy with the election results, saying some nasty stuff. In that moment it wasn’t nice. And then I was doing a lot of traveling in some other very red and conservative areas, it felt very isolating. I feel like the election results made people distrust each other, and made us unsure whether or not people around us were genuinely concerned with the safety of their fellow people. So that sucked. So I would say being around other people was unpleasant in this case. What do you hope to achieve out of this rally and other ones? I think just kind of the visible, show of support for communities and individuals who feel like their safety might be threatened. I went to a really big one of these out in L.A and toward the ends there’s a lot of immigration out in CA. As you’re walking through the city you can see people who are members of groups that they might be feel targeted. Just the look on their faces, it made me feel that it makes a difference. Just having a visible sign that there’s a big group of people that aren’t about what the incoming administration are. |
